The passenger opened fire on the officers during a police checkpoint where more than 30 shots were heard.

Another shooting has occurred in the United States. It happened during a police checkpoint in South Carolina. Two officers were speaking with the occupant of a vehicle when they realized he was armed.

The man begins shooting at the officers. The police then return fire. More than 30 shots are heard . The driver of the vehicle, as seen in the video, gets out of the car, disoriented. The man who was with the driver has died.

The incident occurred on May 7 when Evan Cubbage, a deputy with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, pulled over a car on Savannah Highway. Cubbage requested backup after a “brief interaction” with the vehicle’s occupants.

“He has a gun,” the officer warned. The passenger opened fire on the police. After a shootout, the man died at the scene. The sheriff was also wounded. He had to be taken to the hospital, where he was released hours later.

The deceased passenger was identified as James Pierce, a 28-year-old man, and the driver has been arrested.

The South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting , and both sheriff’s deputies are on paid administrative leave per normal protocol, Sheriff’s spokesman Andrew Knapp said, according to local media.
