Video released showing deadly shooting involving Decatur PD, armed robbery suspect

Rueter says he is of the opinion&nbspthat the officer’s use of force in this situation was not in violation of the laws of the State of Illinois and unfortunately a necessary response to the actions of the deceased.

Earlier on March 18,&nbspofficers of the Decatur Police Department had occasion to investigate a report of an armed robbery at a local convenience type store.

The Decatur Police Department stopped three subjects at 600 W. Grand, one matching the description of an armed robbery suspect from an incident that happened prior to the stop.

Police say during the course of the encounter, Rocky L. Dupin, 38 disobeyed commands and pulled a firearm from his coat, at which time two officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

The Decatur Police Department confirmed that the man killed in an officer-involved shooting had a replica gun, not a real gun at the time of the shooting.
